How will you join us? …… there are now three routes of entry to become a police officer.

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

If you don’t currently have a degree but you do have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification (A Level equivalent), you will join us and work towards the Degree in Professional Policing Practice (Level 6), which will be funded by West Midlands Police and the apprenticeship levy and delivered in collaboration with our partner university.

It takes three years to complete your probationary period and achieve the degree during which time you will work as a full time police officer and be trained in all aspects of the role.

Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)

If you already hold a degree, you will join us on our degree holder entry route where you will study towards a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice (Level 6).

This is a two year programme during which you will work as a full time police officer and be trained in all aspects of the role.

The programme is funded by West Midlands Police and delivered in collaboration with our partner university.

Professional Policing Qualification (PPQ)

This route of entry involves studying for the Degree in Professional Policing Practice (Level 6) before you join West Midlands Police.

For this route of entry you will arrange and fund your own university place and attend university in your own time, you may have the opportunity to apply and work as a special constable to supplement your studies.

If you are successful in our recruitment process you will join a two year training programme where we will equip you with all of the required skills for the role.

It is unlikely that the degree will be readily available within universities until Sept 2018 and there is no guarantee that you will pass the police officer selection process.
