Neighbourhood Policing is a core of policing and essential in building trusting relationships with communities.
This is a fantastic opportunity to come a work as a Neighbourhood Police Officer in an extremely diverse, vibrant and challenging area of the West Midlands.
The key role responsibilities include community engagement, working closely with partners, problem solving and targeted activity to ensure we deliver the Force vision of preventing crime, protecting the public and helping those in need. Collaborative problem solving with communities and partners is essential to building trust and developing a working relationships; so we have a better understanding of each other’s needs and constraints in order to identify the relevant support each agency can provide to deal with a specific concern or issue - with regard to communities this provides a platform for activating citizens. Clearly with working in a demanding area comes the responsibility to respond to calls for service, so you will need to be adaptable, decisive and able to work under pressure dealing with an array of challenging incidents. Similarly, a sound investigative background is key in order to expeditiously and effectively support victims of crime.
Opportunities within our Response Teams – Open Now
Force Response teams are at the front line of policing and are the first public face to face contact for people in need of help. Force Response officers are responsible for delivering a first class service to those most in need. You will be responding to calls from the public and working closely with our internal and external partners to ensure we deliver the Force vision of preventing crime, protecting the public and helping those in need.
A typical day could include helping a victim of domestic abuse, searching for a high risk missing person, completing primary investigation into a stabbing or helping a person experiencing mental health crisis but each day and each incident is different so you will need to be adaptable, be decisive and able to work under pressure. Force Response is fast paced, varied and exciting so if you're after a life less ordinary this may be the job for you.
Opportunities within our Firearms Team – Open Spring 2020
West Midlands Police Firearms Operations Unit undertook over 3,000 armed deployments in 2018, and as such are one of the busiest firearms units in the country.
Between armed deployments, our officers are encouraged to assist with force priorities including the targeting of Serious Acquisitive Crime offenders.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working individuals to join our team where in return, we can offer you the opportunity to use and develop your skills. To apply you’ll need to be a current Authorised Firearms Officer, trained to the National ARV Role Profile Standard in-line with the current National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and be able to pass the JRFT to level 9-4 on application
Opportunities within our Public Protection Team – Open Now
PIP 2 qualified Detective Constables or those working towards PIP2 are invited to apply for an exciting opportunity to join us within our complex public protection investigation Teams within West Midlands Police.
The teams deal with the most serious of public protection offences including rape, domestic attempt murders and wounding’s, penetrative offences, historic sexual offences and any other complex investigations. The team work closely with partners to help safeguard victim’s and gather all available evidence to present complicated issues in a understandable format for a trial jury to understand and make their verdict on. The role provides an opportunity to work closely with victim’s who are in great need of support at often incredibly difficult periods of their lives. The opportunity to support individuals who are initially seen at their lowest point and to then help them gain justice and help get their lives back on track is a challenging yet rewarding part of this role.
