The Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands Regional is a collaboration between the police forces of Staffordshire, West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire to fight organised crime across the region.  The aim of the Regional Organised Crime unit West Midlands (ROCUWM) is to reduce the impact and increase the disruption of serious and organised crime within the region and beyond.


We target those areas of criminality we believe pose the greatest regional threats to the people and businesses of the area we cover. Working alongside other UK law enforcement agencies and many other partners from both private and public sectors, the ROCUWM will directly influence the capabilities of these groups, stifling and reducing their criminal activity. 



As an Intelligence Analyst within the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit you will be joining a supportive team at an exciting time of change - the Serious Organised Crime Strategy 2018 places the ROCU at the heart of leading the response to serious organised crime, and the role of the analyst is central to delivering this across the our region. 


The role includes the identification, development and support to proactive investigations working with our intelligence and operational teams, assessing risk and harm across the region and understanding the strategic threats we face against a background of evolving criminality.


You will be working on the most complex and challenging areas of criminality using sensitive data, and therefore we are looking for exceptional candidates whom are confident supporting all areas of analysis including tactical, investigative and strategic.


Whilst the majority of the posts are based in central Birmingham, a significant proportion of your time could be spent at one of our regional hubs, currently based at Stafford and near Worcester, and therefore candidates must be prepared to be flexible and travel around the region to support as required.  We are also seeking to post some of our analysts at our regional hubs, at Stafford and near Worcester, but still with an expectation of travel to central Birmingham each week.

Essential Skills:

  • Interpreting & simplifying complex data sets;
  • Excellent Communication Skills, both verbal and written; 
  • Influencing and negotiating with stakeholders; 
  • Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, internal and external partners
  • Highly competent in the use of Microsoft packages, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities; 
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment yet still providing accuracy at all times and a high level of detail;
  • Ability to prioritise & plan own work to tight deadlines; 
  • Must have a driving licence & be prepared, if required, to work between Birmingham and Stafford or Birmingham and near Worcester; and vice versa.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience as an Intelligence Analyst within a law enforcement agency (LEA);
  • Completion of the National Intelligence Analysis Training (NIAT);
  • Experience of working with communications data within investigations, producing evidential products
  • Knowledge of relevant National/ Regional/ LEA data sources and systems including OCGM; 
  • Experience of relevant analytical tools, such as iBASE, i2 workstation, GIS applications and other customised databases;
  • Experience working in a police intelligence environment and experience of working with relevant police intelligence systems. 
  • Experience of working with covertly obtained products; 

Other Requirements:

  • Must be willing to undergo vetting;
  • Occasional work outside of normal office hours; 
  • Should have an interest in and be willing to maintain personal knowledge of changes in IT and communications technology.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required.
  • The post holder will be expected to comply with health and safety requirements.
