PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Must possess high standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
- Preferably have a background in covert policing methods and complex investigations.
- Be a dynamic and motivated individual seeking a challenging role in covert policing and is able to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate a special interest in technical systems and equipment.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Candidates must hold a current police driving authorisation. The role may also require the candidate to attend and pass an advanced police driving qualification.
- Candidates must hold a current police officer safety authorisation.
- Candidates will be required to successfully complete a number of relevant College of Policing courses, it should be noted that some of these courses require a higher level of fitness.
- Candidates must be able to access and interrogate police intelligence systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex and specialist concepts to police and partners.
- Work co-operatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of team and organisational objectives.
- Ability to work under pressure, pay attention to detail and concentrate for long periods in challenging circumstances.
- Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet challenging timescales with minimal supervision.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Ability to identify innovative and creative solutions, in accordance with legislation, to achieve tasking objectives.
- Detailed Understanding of: Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000; Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996; Police Act 1997; and, Management of Police Information.
- Must apply and promote ROCU – WM and Police Code of Ethics and integrity principles
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Previous experience of working within covert policing.
- Technical skills and experience in relation to video, audio, alarm, telecommunication, electrical systems and electronic surveillance.
- Experience and knowledge of telephone networking, specifically mobile telephones.
- Have a workable knowledge of health and safety legislation and guidelines.
- Knowledge of asset tracking capabilities/technology.

This is a management vetting / security cleared designated post. The preferred candidate will be subject to both procedures. It is the officer’s responsibility to ensure relevant forms are completed and processed by their home Force. Evidence of management vetting clearance must be provided.
ROCU WM will take into consideration officer’s sickness and disciplinary records as part of the selection procedure.
A timeline of key dates (may be subject to change) is as follows:

2nd April 2020 – Online Applications closed
9th April 2020 – Applicants updated following paper sift.
20th & 21st April 2020 – CVF Interview & Presentation.
