About the Role:

West Midlands Police are seeking three Construction Project Managers to join our Property Services Team. These roles are based in central Birmingham with travel across the West Midlands region.

West Midlands Police (WMP) is the second largest metropolitan force in the UK. Following the New Ways of Working Modernisation Programme, we are embarking upon an Estates Programme within the WMP2020 Change Programme, focused on delivering a modern and flexible force-wide estate, supporting the delivery of the operational policing model defined by WMP2020.

As part of the WMP 2020 Estates Programme you will be responsible for capital and major revenue building improvements and new build projects from design through to completion. Within your role you’ll undertake Project Management and building design functions.

In this role you will:

  • assist the Building Works Manager in the preparation of annual estimates for the improvement of properties including assessment of cost in liaison with other appropriate building design disciplines
  • undertake surveys and feasibility studies and prepare specifications for building and associated projects, liaising with other appropriate building design specialists
  • carry out inspections of projects on site
  • be responsible from the conception to completion of an agreed annual programme within the Police and Crime Commissioners Capital Programme
  • be responsible for the passing of accounts related to projects inspected and/or projects managed
  • prepare applications for statutory approvals and ensure the compliance of Police & Crime Commissioners buildings
  • produce drawings using Auto CAD 
  • prepare specification, tender and contract documentation 
  • advise the business in relation to proposed alterations and improvements to property as identified
  • issue orders for work, to obtain quotations for work and to prepare and submit reports, including costs for work in excess of authorised expenditure limits
  • act as NPU Site Representative on refurbishment projects for the Property Services Department

About you:

You will hold a HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline and also have substantial experience and knowledge of building / service installations and project management.

As the ideal candidate you will be enthusiastic, have excellent interpersonal skills, be open and flexible in your approach and have a clear ability to deliver appropriate cost effective solutions within defined timeframes. You will be assertive, organised and be able to communicate effectively.

The Construction Project Managers will also have demonstrable knowledge of and experience in:

  • Preparing Feasibility Studies 
  • Architectural Design capability
  • Construction Detailing 
  • Computer Aided Design 
  • Using both JCT and NEC forms of Contract
  • AutoDesk Revit and other BIM applications is desirable
A full UK Driving Licence and a willingness to use of your own vehicle for business use is a requirement of this role.

Due to the nature of the role flexibility in your working hours is essential.
