Essential

  • Substantial current role-related experience as an analyst in a police Serious Organised Crime environment with excellent understanding of the National Intelligence Model and experience of reviewing the effectiveness of analysis products and the type of information used in analysis processes.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in analysis within law enforcement or partnership environment. Relevant professional qualification and completion of the National Intelligence Analysis Training; IBM I2 Analyst notebooks / i Base course and Core Skills in Communications data / CD data course. Experience of producing analytical reports and products incorporating the use (but not exclusively) of financial intelligence.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills. Experience of negotiating and persuading. Ability to deliver presentations, attend and engage in briefings and meetings within a police and partnership environment. Demonstrable ability to form and maintain relationships between agencies
  • Proven ability to develop intelligence analysis capability within a policing or other law enforcement agency
  • Experience of successfully managing and developing people with clear accountability for their performance. Evidence of problem solving.
  • Excellent legislative knowledge e.g. ECHR, RIPA, GDPR, etc., and knowledge of force management policies. Evidence of interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
  • Advanced IT skills. Extensive and advanced use of Excel, i Base and Analyst Notebook. Extensive knowledge of Communications data, Social Media and Open Source data; its use and governing legislation. Willingness and ability to learn and use new systems as technology develops
  • Experience of managing and co-ordinating own and others’ workloads, with minimum supervision, prioritising and meeting tight deadlines. Flexible approach to working hours. Able to evidence self motivation and use of own initiative.
  • Ability to travel inter-region at short notice. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
  • An understanding of government strategy and policies and how they affect the policing of County Lines
  • Experience of working with partner agencies or utilisation of their data sets/ intelligence.

Desirable skill and other information:


  • The post is subject to successful completion of vetting.
  • Should have an interest in and be willing to maintain personal knowledge of changes in IT and communications technology 
  • The post holder may be required to work from different locations other than the Birmingham area.
  • Occasional work outside of normal office hours
  • The post holder will need to have a driving license 
  • The post holder may be required to use their own vehicle so the individual will need to ensure that they have business use cover within their insurance
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required
  • The post holder will be expected to comply with health and safety requirements
