Lawyer - Civil Litigation
Qualifications / Experience
Essential
-
Be a qualified practicing Solicitor, Fellow of CILEx or Barrister holding a current Practicing Certificate for England and Wales.

Have proven experience of handling your own caseload of civil litigation matters including cases of high value/complexity resting in the Multi-track.

Have knowledge and experience in the conduct and management of public liability claims, together with experience of general litigation, judicial review and debt recovery matters. Experience of handling claims for unlawful arrest and false imprisonment, assault/battery, malicious prosecution, misfeasance and Human Rights is desirable.

Experience of running cases on a Case Management System with limited supervision.

Experience of arranging preparing for and attendance at Court hearing (to include Case Management Conferences) and JSM/ADR meetings with a view to ensuring that relevant actions are planned and executed to protect the best interests of the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner.

Experience of drafting reports/instructions to counsel/medical experts and in general preparing advice on liability and quantum issues.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet/manage deadlines

Excellent client care skills

Good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules

Be able to provide resilience for all work conducted for the wider Joint Legal Services in relation to all aspects and functions of its work.

Be able to work autonomously or as part of a team, and capable of taking on new areas of work with minimal supervision. You will also be able to deal with sensitive and confidential information.

Experience of dealing with claims against police

Experience of dealing with costs arising from litigation

Experience of dealing with civil application in the Magistrates Court

Conditions:
This is a full time role working 36.5 hours per week utilising a hybrid working approach. Depending on the demands of service the post holder will be required to work out of both West Midlands and Staffordshire offices. The post holder will be required to travel to locations throughout the Force areas.

Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Medical
Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
Shortlisting & Interviews
Papersift shortlisting will be completed during week commencing 30th May 2022.
Interviews will be held week commencing 13th June 2022.
