About the role: 

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the West Midlands Police Cannabis Disposal Team. The role is a challenging one requiring a keen attention to detail together with a practical approach to systems and processes.
The cannabis disposal team currently work the core hours of Monday- Friday 0800-1600.

The role can be both physically and mentally demanding requiring a keen eye for detail and a sound practical ability.

The successful applicant will be required to work within premises of all descriptions in challenging conditions, at height, and in confined spaces. 

  • Reporting to the Cannabis Team Supervisors the post holder will be expected to Work as part of a small team and,
  • Attend scenes of cannabis farms as directed, across the West Midlands Police Force Area.
  • Seize Cannabis plants for both evidential purposes, and for the safe disposal / destruction of property and equipment.
  • Ensure that any evidence gathered is recorded accurately and submitted in a timely manner following Force policy and procedure. This may require attendance at court to give evidence.
  • Support West Midlands Police with other duties from time to time, this will include but not limited to scene guarding, and moving seized property between West Midlands Police Premises.

Due to the broad scope of this role working in drug related crime scenes applicants must be able to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and discipline. Applicants must also be innovative in problem solving and be able to communicate effectively. The cannabis Disposal team supports wider Policing objectives and the role incorporates other duties

The role is currently based at a fixed location within Smethwick, however may move to a Birmingham central location in the future. The team operates Forcewide, there maybe occasions when you will be required to assist in other force areas.

Applicants must possess a Driving license, be physically fit, and willing to use computer systems. All uniform, equipment and training will be provided.

  • Experience of working within the Criminal Justice system
This is a full time post. The recruitment process will involve paper shifting with applications assessed against the Police competency values framework. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend for an interview.
