Victim Identification Officer (Constable)
Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
- Ability to work on own initiative, possess an aptitude for problem solving complex tasks and be able to approach tasks in a methodical and precise way
- Previous experience of producing clear, concise and accurate reports
- Experience of working in an environment dealing with the public
- Working knowledge of confidentiality and data protection issues and have a clear understanding of safeguarding and multiagency approach.
- Be able to regularly work with material that may be of an obscene, offensive or distressing nature. Treat such material in the appropriate manner ensuring it is secured and handled in the strictest confidence and in accordance with defined policies.
- Able to work in a technical environment.
- To attend other locations and scenes when required by the Digital Forensics Technical Manager.
- Investigation and evidence gathering experience
- Previous experience in criminal law and criminal justice system
- Working knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act
- Knowledge of police policy and procedures in relation to the role
- Experience of dealing with conflict
- Experience of working in a multi-agency environment, working with partner agencies
Skills:
Essential:
- Competent IT skills
- Possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to liaise with colleagues of all rank and senior representatives of other organisations at a Local, National and International level.
- Self-motivation, self-management and decision making skills
- Willing to travel across the force to liaise with colleagues and partners, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current enquiries & contributing to meetings where required
- Experience of effectively managing workloads
- Flexible approach to problem solving
- Requirement to hold a full UK driving license and be willing to pass the WMP driving test to drive unmarked Police vehicles if required
Desirable:
- Experience of working within a technical or digital business area at a practical, hands-on level.
- Be conversant with the ISO 17025 standard and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence
- Have a technical understanding of attributes (metadata) associated with Images and videos.
- Experience in grading Indecent Images of Children (IIOC)
- Investigation experience
- Working within a public protection environment
- Contracted hours may be between 8am and 10pm. Shift working may include late shifts and weekend working for which they would be compensated accordingly.
- Post holder may be required and expected to work outside these hours from time to time including Bank holidays and be required to work at short notice.
- This role may require the post holder to perform duties on a force wide basis
- Requirement to travel out of the force area, where necessary, to progress investigations
