Who are we looking for?

  • Someone with strong Maths, English, Science and/ or IT ability
  • Who has good written and verbal communication skills and an aptitude to use computerised systems
  • Who will commit to a three year training course which includes block release training periods which require over- night stays
  • Is a logical thinker with a mature attitude to work and training
  • A team player who has a passion to progress as a Vehicle Technician
  • Has an eye for detail, so that once trained you can complete diagnosis, repair and servicing of police vehicles and ancillary equipment, including light commercial vehicles. You will also be trained to commission and de-commission specialised in -car police equipment including the design and installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) equipment.
We offer……..
  • £17,262 initial training salary which will increase annually during training
  • Initially a three year fixed term contract with potential to be extended
  • A Level 3 Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship Standard qualification supported by quality on the job training within West Midlands Police Fleet Services Division
  • 36.5 hrs per week, hours 07:30 to 15:30 Monday - Friday and 10:30 to 18:30 Monday-Friday on late week (approx. 1 late week in 6)
  • PPE and tools will be provided by West Midlands Police for the duration of the Apprenticeship programme

The roles are currently based in Aston, Birmingham but will relocate to Perry Barr, Birmingham in the Spring of 2020.

There will be a Familiarisation Day at Park Lane, Aston for applicants who are selected at the initial sift stage which will take place in the Autumn of 2019
