Superintendent Transferees (at rank)

Police Officer
190000MB Requisition #

West Midlands Police are pleased to invite transferee applications for the role of Superintendent.

Applications are invited from existing external substantive Superintendents.

The West Midlands is a busy, urban area offering a diverse range of communities to protect and support. Our HQ is in Birmingham, which is the youngest city in Europe - with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of the population. But it’s not all about the second city… we cover as far afield as Coventry and over to where the Black Country meets Staffordshire. We police six Premier League and Football League clubs and are preparing for major events such as Coventry City of Culture and Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.

Whatever your policing background, there’s a role for you with WMP. Neighbourhood policing continues to play a significant part in tackling issues and working in partnership with our local communities. Our frontline Response teams work in hubs across the force area. We have teams based across our patch to investigate crime and vulnerability, in our CID and Public Protection units. We have central Firearms, Roads Policing, Operations, Offender Management, Intelligence and Professional Standards departments and work in partnership with police colleagues in the West Midlands CTU, NABIS, the Central Motorway Police Group and the Regional Organised Crime Unit.

We serve 2.8 million people in an area rich in diversity, with around 30 per cent of its population from ethnic minority backgrounds. Our force values embody what we are, to apply you must have real passion for people and communities. We are looking for Superintendents who can drive forward our equality and diversity strategy, build trust and confidence and ensure an inclusive approach.

To rise to the challenge, you will be someone who thrives on working in a dynamic environment, delivering visionary leadership. You will encourage the creativity and innovation that will support our people and protect our communities in the West Midlands and beyond. This is a challenging role where you will play an integral part in delivering the Force Ambition Plan, Leadership Promise and our People Deal while leading and motivating change and delivering on our promises.

Successful applicants will also be required to undertake wider leadership in their Operational roles contributing to force priorities and performance, (for example, firearms, public order, kidnap and extortion, senior investigating officer, subject matter expert, etc.).

Am I eligible?

  • To apply to transfer to West Midlands Police you must be an existing external substantive Superintendent with a Home Office Force
  • Please do not apply as a transferee if you already have an active application with another force

If you feel engaged by our vision and values, have a passion for people, colleagues and communities, an appetite to work in a challenging and complex organisation and you embody our force values and Leadership Promise we would like to hear from you. Please note that applicants will be required to complete and pass an assessment process.

Diversity and Inclusion Vision: “Maximise the potential of people from all backgrounds through a culture of fairness and inclusion to deliver the best service for our communities”.

West Midlands Police are currently undertaking a long term review of staff pay and conditions.  The grade, pay and other terms of employment are therefore subject to review and may change in the future.

West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions.  As part of our commitment we operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be guaranteed an interview.
