Salary:  £47,058 to £50,250

Grade: 9

Closing Date:  3rd September 2021

About the role:

Senior Software Developer, focussing on C# Internet Web Development

Are you an experienced C# Internet web developer?

Are you ready to make a real difference to people in the West Midlands?

Join our team and be at the heart of UK Policing’s most ambitious ongoing technology transformation.  Use your technical skills in Internet web development to prevent crime, protect the public, and help those in need.

West Midlands Police has over the last few years undergone a period of unparalleled change and innovation; our technology is pivotal to both maintaining operational capabilities and building future success as we develop our solutions even further.  Integration of our new systems will enable us to maximise benefit to our organisation and our users.

You will be working within the Development team in our Delivery Management function alongside a committed and enthusiastic team of other developers.  You will be responsible for taking a leading role in the development of our ground-breaking digital presence and service offering, with support from other Software Developers, Senior Software Developers and managers across the Delivery function.

Our website is the only one in UK policing that offers online crime reporting that is fully integrated to our back-end policing system.  This integration ensures timely status updates to our users and is helping to provide better and more convenient interaction.  You will be a technical lead and bring extensive knowledge to the team, both in terms of existing technologies as well as innovative new methods that could bring about service improvement.

We'd really welcome your application if:

  • You have experience acting as a Scrum Master on the delivery of software solutions
  • You have acted as a mentor to more junior developers
  • You have knowledge and experience of C# Internet web solution development, using .NET Core with MVC or Razor Pages, Bootstrap, and React
  • You have knowledge and experience of creating REST APIs using C# .NET Core WebAPI

Working within the IT & Digital Team is rewarding; we offer the opportunity to work in a large organisation where people can develop their skills, knowledge and careers in an encouraging and flexible environment.  Our benefits include:

  • 28 days holiday (plus bank holidays) rising to 33 days after five years’ service
  • Access to a Corporate Health Cash Plan and wellbeing support services
  • Modern working environment in central Birmingham with established agile working practices using industry-leading remote working technology
  • Opportunity to save on travel costs through a Corporate Travel Scheme

“Improvement through innovation” is a core component of West Midlands Police’s This Work Matters strategy and you will play an important part of delivery on this promise.  Being a strong performer is part of our underpinning Values. West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions.  As part of our commitment we operate a ‘Disability Confident Interview Scheme’ - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.

It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.

"Diversity and Inclusion Vision:  Maximise the potential of people from all backgrounds through a culture of fairness and inclusion to deliver the best service for our communities"
