ROCU - Technical Officer - Constable
ESSENTIAL FOR THE ROLE - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of working in a technical capacity, covert technical installations, encryption technology, telecommunications, general computing and networking infrastructure. Has a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of planning, reviewing, implementing Technical installations surrounding Covert Policing.
- Demonstrate you are capable of maintaining network systems that help our business operate smoothly whilst maintaining operational security.
- Able to troubleshoot computer issues and provide technical support and guidance to operational teams. You will have strong problem-solving skills, and take an analytical approach to your work.
- Demonstrate an awareness of emerging technology and creative ways to capture evidence to make sure our team is ready for the future. With the ever-changing nature of technology today, there’s ample scope to learn and develop your skills by assisting in updating current systems as well the design of new future-proof systems in the digital arena.
- Demonstrate able to work independently and as part of the undercover team so we are looking for people that are good at collaborating regionally and nationally whilst working on your own and as part of your team to drive progress forward.
- Demonstrate capable of working and developing imagery/video and other digital file formats.
- Maintain technical inventories and manage databases
- Develop and maintain working relationships with other Law Enforcement Agencies nationally and internationally to share best practice and enable networking opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements in relation to Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA 2000), Investigatory Powers Act 2016, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), The Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Code of Practice on Management of Police Information 2005. This will maintain investigations in line with legal parameters.
- Knowledge of Overt and Covert police tactics
- Knowledge of CPIA (Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996)
- Potential to undertake sensitive enquiries and therefore exhibit high standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism. This includes digesting complex operational plans and managing highly sensitive information within the Government Security Classification (GSC) and Security Policy Framework (SPF).
- Ability to be able to undertake sensitive taskings with limited supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
- Demonstrate ability to manage threat, risk and be able to apply dynamic control measures.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills: including verbal and written. The post holder will be articulate, methodical, conscientious and concise.
- Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, internal and external partners.
- Experience of and ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative, effectively planning and organising activities and resources to meet objectives.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and produce accurate work within tight deadlines.
- Cultural competence across all communities and the protected characteristics within the Equality Act.
Hours of work
Technical Officer Roles may require the need to work flexibly at all times with due regard to prevailing workloads and priorities. There may be a requirement at times to travel to other locations within the region and nationally. Due to the nature of this role it is essential that technical officers are flexible in terms of their working location and are prepared to work temporarily at other locations. The ability to locate within the Regional area at short notice.
Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass MV and SC vetting scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Applicants will be required to attend a ROCU Assessment Centre which will comprise of a Briefing exercise and CBI Interview.

- You will report directly to a Detective Sergeant (ROCU) for Regional Undercover Unit
