Prevent Officer
Role Responsibilities:
- Working with internal and external partners to develop and deliver local Prevent delivery plans.
- To co-ordinate the delivery of Prevent across the wider policing family, facilitating engagement to neighbourhood policing teams (NPTs), partner organisations, communities and groups to help deliver the Prevent agenda.
- Work collaboratively with Prevent partners in local authorities, schools, higher and further educational institutions, faith institutions and organisations, the health sector, the prison and probation service.
- Identify and work with key individual networks to engage on Prevent and advise Independent Advisory Groups or equivalent structures.
- Act in support of frontline staff with regards to consequence management issues. Act as a community contact for any CT consequence management issues.
- Contribute to neighbourhood mapping within the CT context to help local policing colleagues understand the complex nature of the community at a local level.
- To gather and disseminate information including community tensions relating to CT issues, developing plans and identifying joint actions to address any issues.
- To maintain responsibility for Prevent Case Management (PCM) enquiries, conducting and co-ordinating vulnerability assessments, de-brief interviews and delivery of PCM tactics.
- Work with partners to develop community impact assessments of terrorism-related incidents, arrests and policing operations.
- Work with police and community partners to develop and deliver proactive communications in advance of terrorism-related operations.
- Support the extended police family and partners in the commissioning and production of Counter-Terrorism Local Profiles (CTLP) and the delivery of the work and objectives outlined in the CTLP.
- Deliver Prevent briefings to local policing staff, partners and communities and disseminate nationally accredited police Prevent training and guidance products.
- Through engagement, signpost individuals vulnerable to radicalisation into appropriate support mechanisms, such as Channel.
- Identify community intervention providers who can provide advice and support to individuals vulnerable to radicalisation.
- Support activity across all four pillars of Contest providing tactical advice to CT SIO’s on Prevent options and capability, maintaining daily links with local policing to ensure that all Prevent activity is complimenting other CT activity.
- Work in collaboration with Corporate Communications, the SIO, stakeholders and partners in the delivery of Consequence Management plans.
- The dissemination of key messaging to stakeholders identified within Consequence Management plans.
- Other appropriate operational activity as directed by Prevent Supervisors/Managers.
- Understanding of the Prevent strategy.
- Experience and understanding of Partnership Working.
- Influential and diplomatic communication skills.
- Highest standards of discretion and sensitivity when handling information on community security, issues and intelligence.
- Ability to write concise, detailed and accurate reports for the attention of police colleagues, police managers and partners.
- Ability to prepare and deliver sensitive and emotive presentations
- Experience of safeguarding and working with Local Authority Multi Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH) or equivalents.
- Evidence of decision making skills involving risk and vulnerability.
