Police Officer (Non Degree Holder) – Degree Apprenticeship Route – PCDA
Are you Eligible?
- Qualifications:
- Candidates must have achieved Level 2 English and Maths e.g. GCSE (Grade A*-C/ 9-4), or Functional Skills. (Only final certificates will be accepted)
- Candidates must have a level 3 qualification equating to 64 UCAS Points. Candidates currently working towards a Level 3 are eligible to apply as long as they are graduating in the same calendar year as their application
- Candidates with Level 4 or 5 qualifications can submit proof of these rather than the Level 3 qualification
- Medical/Fitness:
- When applying for the role candidates must be able/ready to run the bleep test to a level of 5.4
- Nationality:
- Candidates from outside of the United Kingdom, must have indefinite leave to remain and no restrictions on their right to work or remain in the UK
- Residency:
- Candidates are required to be UK Residents for the last three years
Recruitment Process:
The recruitment process may seem like a lengthy experience, but once you’re are a member of the West Midlands Police family, you will have a career for life. We will do our best to make sure you have the quickest and most efficient recruitment experience as possible, but we need your help! Please make sure you are responding to calls and emails as soon as possible, frequently check your emails once you have applied and listen to voicemails we send. When sent the vetting and medical forms, make sure they are completed within 48 hours of arrival or as quickly as possible.
Recruitment Stage:
Apply for the PCDA Entry Route – start your journey in becoming the next Police Officer to make a change in the West Midlands
Attach images of your Final certificates and Tattoos - all we need to see is your Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent) and Level 3 qualifications (A-Level or equivalent)
Candidates from outside the UK – You will be required to provide immigration and Right to Work Status. All candidates must have indefinite leave to remain/no restrictions on their right to work and remain in the UK and lived in the UK for 3 years
Selection Stage:
Complete the National Sift – If eligible, an automated invitation email will be sent for you to complete an online National Sift process involving two exercises:

- Situational judgement test (SJT)
- Behavioural style questionnaire (BSQ)

You will have 7 days to complete the exercises. These can be completed in any order you prefer, and at any time of day.
Complete the Online Assessment Centre– you will be made aware whether or not you have been successful once we are in receipt of your results. If you are unsuccessful, you will have the opportunity to reapply and re-sit the assessment after 3 months.
Onboarding Stage:
Vetting and Medical Checks -You will be sent two vetting forms and one medical form
Attend a FAB Day (Fitness and Biometric Tests) – When applying for the role you must be able/ready to run the bleep test to a level of 5.4 (there are videos on YouTube to help you practice and you are allowed three attempts)
Receive an Offer and a Starting Date – Once you have completed your fitness test and all vetting and medical checks are complete you will receive an offer and start date in the coming weeks

Start dates and annual leave:
- For those applying now, we anticipate a start date of early 2023
- Due to the nature of the role and your training programme, during the first 31 weeks you will only be able to take 2 weeks annual leave and these will be allocated to you.
- We cannot guarantee annual leave requests will be approved outside of this time. On your application we ask you to let us know if you have any pre-booked annual leave as this may affect when you’re able to start.
