About you:

As a Ballistics Expert you will have a good understanding of UK firearms legislation. You will be able to demonstrate that you can effectively meet demanding deadlines and performance targets whilst remaining flexible and responsive to changing operational circumstances. You will have good planning and organisation skills, as well as effective IT and written and verbal communication skills. 

You will also:
  • have a sound general forensic science knowledge including DNA, fingerprints, fibres, hairs and tool marks
  • be educated to degree level or equivalent with a forensic science discipline 
  • have successfully completed a NABIS Microscopy Competency assessment or be able successfully complete one prior to interview
  • have extensive knowledge of firearms history and manufacturing processes
  • experience of firearms range control and range procedures
  • have substantial work experience with a leading forensic organisation or an independent expert consultant 
  • have experience and training in use of IBIS technologies 
  • have experience of disassembly and reloading of ammunition and in re-charging pre-charge weapons
  • completed a recognised ‘Expert Witness Course’ in firearms and have court experience 
  • knowledge of police investigative procedures and intelligence led activity 
  • have supervised / trained staff and assisted in their assessment for further training
