Knowledge Skills and experience
Essential
- Experience of conducting focused open source enquiries and/or online research, particularly in relation to social media networks and telephonic applications (apps) to identify/track individuals.
- Ability to use computers to conduct research including previous usage of Windows based software, databases and any other formalised records system
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the importance of Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act, European Convention on Human Rights Articles (ECHR), RIPA and CPIA.
- Experience of working both within a team, and on own initiative – particularly when managing and prioritising allotted duties.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven technical online knowledge, experience and training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
- Completion of, or willingness to complete and pass, formalised Open Source training and/or other relevant qualifications.
- Knowledge of current police intelligence systems.
- Experience of producing evidential reports suitable for submission in the Criminal Justice System.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of covert policing methodology and techniques.
- Proven experience of major or complex investigations.
- Dedication to continuous professional development and a high level of integrity and working with sensitive material
- Previous experience of internet and open source exploitation
- Knowledge of IT based research tools and application’s
Working Hours:
Working Hours will be between 0700 and 1800 Monday to Friday, the post holder may be required to take part in the on-call duty rota and may also be required to work outside normal office hours including holiday periods.
Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Secruity Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

West Midlands Police intelligence department will be holding an open evening regarding this post at 1800hrs on 15th July 2021 at the Tally Ho, conference and banqueting centre, Pershore Road, Birmingham, B5 7RN.
The closing date for applications is midnight on 25th July 2021 It is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 30th August2021. If there are any days or times you are unavailable during this week period please make a note of this in your application.
The selection process will be conducted using the College of Policing, Competency Values Framework (CVF) level 1(Practitioner).
