About the Role

Please note that the successful candidate would be expected to start on spc 33 (£36,369) if the appropriate evidence is provided during the recruitment process.

West Midlands Police are currently undertaking a long term review of staff pay and conditions. The grade, pay and other terms of employment are therefore subject to review and may change in the future.

An opportunity has arisen within the Intelligence Department for two permanent Higher Analysts. The roles are suitable for existing analysts who can evidence at least three years analytical experience.

Based in Lloyd House, the successful candidates will be involved in a wide range of intelligence functions including providing technical advice to intelligence management teams and ensuring the continuing professional development of Intelligence Analysts through advice and the development of training materials.

They will also be responsible for the delivery of Strategic Intelligence Assessments to senior management teams and liaising with staff across the force and other agencies to obtain and/or disseminate information.

Working Arrangements

This role currently has a working pattern of 0800 to 1600 Monday to Friday.
Successful applicants may be required on occasion to work weekends, bank or religious holidays. This is a hot desking role, based at Lloyd House. Successful applicant will need to undertake management vetting.

Additional Role Information
  • The successful candidate will also:
  • Undertake all analytical functions in relation to the preparation of comprehensive products in accordance with nationally agreed principles.
  • Quality assure intelligence and analytical products to ensure corporate standards are maintained across the force, and identify where improvements are required.
  • Assess and improve Analyst technical skills throughout the force ensuring consistency of assessment measures in line with intelligence professional practice (IPP).
  • Assist in the development of intelligence collections plans and ensure the effective communication of these to operational officers. 
  • Prepare briefing notes and deliver presentations where appropriate.
  • Liaise with staff across the force and other agencies to obtain and/or disseminate information.
  • Attend local, regional and national forums as appropriate.
  • Prepare evidence, and attend court and give evidence when required.
  • Take appropriate security precautions in respect of intelligence information.
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post that may from time to time be determined.
Essential Requirements
  • At least three years analytical experience.
  • Qualified to graduate level in a relevant subject or studying for a post graduate qualification in a relevant field.
  • Evidence negotiating & influencing skills.
  • Evidence of coaching and mentoring experience.
  • Experience of training delivery.
  • Experienced in the use of IBM i2 Analysts Notebook and GIS Systems.
