About the Role:

Financial Investigator for the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU)
Regional Asset Recovery Team (RART) – 1 vacancy for part-time (0.6FTE) police staff

Formal Detective and/or Financial Investigator status whilst ideal, are not a pre-requisite. Where necessary training will be provided, but the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate that they meet the job description expected skills and knowledge criteria.

Applications are invited from police staff for the post of Financial Investigator with the RART based at Steelhouse Lane Police Station.
RART is a multi-agency collaboration created specifically to optimise opportunities presented by the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002) to recover criminal assets from those engaged in organised crime.

You will be part of a talented team of police officers, police staff and professionals from a number of partnership agencies whose ability combined is recovering millions of pounds, increasing confidence in the criminal justice system and contributing towards a fairer society.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to become involved in innovative areas of policing and make an impact on crime at a regional level as part of the wider ROCU.

Where necessary training will be provided, but the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate that they meet the job description pre-requisite skills and knowledge criteria.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To be responsible for the investigation of financial transactions relating to identified suspect offenders in order to trace assets obtained via criminal activity. 
  • To work within the terms of relevant legislation to develop and execute sound investigative strategies, prepare statements as required by courts and give evidence at subsequent trials.
  • To liaise with internal and external agencies, such as HMRC and NCA. To exchange and develop relevant intelligence and information.
  • To be responsible for the management of disclosure issues in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • To provide advice on POCA related matters to stakeholders.
  • To carry out other duties that are commensurate with the post that may be from time to time determined.

Essential Requirements:
  • Must have proven investigative experience and be able to demonstrate good investigative and interview techniques.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Proven report writing skills.
  • To be able to demonstrate high confidentiality and integrity.
  • Must be able to work on her/his own initiative whilst within a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure to specific deadlines, where necessary exhibiting both adaptability and flexibility.
Desired Requirements:
  • Qualified Financial Investigator or Financial Intelligence Officer
  • Experience of application of POCA
