Applications are invited from serving Detective Constables for Financial Investigator positions with the Regional Asset Recovery Team (RART) based in Birmingham city centre.

These opportunities are available for Detective Constables within the ROCUWM Forces (who wish to remain with their home force) and those from home office forces who wish to transfer to West Midlands Police.

RART is a multi-agency collaboration created specifically to optimise opportunities presented by the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002) and associated legislation to recover criminal assets from those engaged in organised crime and is part of the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands region (ROCUWM).

ROCUWM is a collaboration between the police forces of Staffordshire, West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire to fight organised crime across the region with the aim of reducing the impact and increasing the disruption of serious and organised crime within the region and beyond.

Within this role you will be part of a talented team of police officers, police staff and professionals from a number of partnership agencies whose ability combined is recovering millions of pounds, increasing confidence in the criminal justice system and contributing towards a fairer society.

We target those areas of criminality we believe pose the greatest regional threats to the people and businesses of the area we cover. Working alongside other UK law enforcement agencies and many other partners from both private and public sectors, ROCU WM will directly influence the capabilities of these groups, stifling and reducing their criminal activity.

RART strikes at the heart of Organised Crime – money. A specialist team of financial investigators, detectives and financial analysts with in-house CPS support, RART is focussed on criminal finances providing investigation teams with crucial financial evidence, recovering the Proceeds of Crime via POCA & Criminal Finances Act, and leading complex money laundering and civil recovery investigations. RART has national network infrastructure and excellent partnership arrangements, creating access to wider capability and international reach.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the investigation of financial transactions relating to identified suspect offenders in order to trace and recover assets obtained via criminal activity
  • To work within the terms of relevant criminal and civil legislation to develop and execute sound investigative strategies, prepare statements as required by courts and give evidence at subsequent trials
  • To liaise with internal and external agencies, such as HMRC and NCA
  • To exchange and develop relevant intelligence and information
  • To be responsible for the management of disclosure issues in accordance with relevant legislation
  • To provide advice on POCA related matters to stakeholders
  • To carry out other duties that are commensurate with the post that may be from time to time determined

The assessment process will be taking place in central Birmingham during March 2020.

To be eligible to apply for the role you must be a serving police officer.
