Role Responsibilities:
- To assist in day to day operations conducted from within the Visual Intelligence Unit.
- To participate in technological development of Operations Room management tools.
- To provide specialist advice to investigating officers on equipment available to achieve objectives.
- Provide practical assistance on how to prepare and maintain technical equipment.
- Conduct feasibility studies, plan and deploy technical equipment in covert operations.
- Maintain fully auditable systems regarding the deployment of equipment. Deploy equipment in hazardous conditions, whether it is physical or environmental, with the support of firearms officers as required.
- When required design and build equipment, adapt equipment to each individual operation, or repair as required.
- Give evidence in court.
- To provide comprehensive risk assessments for operations.
- To operate an effective system to record the progress of work and equipment deployed.
- To prepare periodic data on work undertaken.
- For the benefit of the individual and organisation, to ensure constant appraisal of working methods to ensure best value and importantly keep abreast of the constant development of technology.
- To provide out of hours response to new operations or to facilitate completion of work undertaken.
- To train others in the use of technical equipment as required.
- To be able to attend courses as required to fulfil the above.
- To maintain equipment as necessary.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Have extensive knowledge of technical support work.
- Significant knowledge of covert audio and visual installations.
- Evidenced proven ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative.
- Experience and knowledge of evidence gathering and disclosure.
- In depth knowledge of current legislation regarding covert surveillance.
- To be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Work within a small team, and demonstrate the importance of team work.
- Able to recognise sensitive information and maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Presentation skills.
- Effective communication skills to be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people.
- Have a full driving licence.
Desirable Skills and Competencies:
- Trained risk assessor.
- Have previous experience of working in a technical support unit.
- Experience of installing audio and video products.
- Have a computer qualification either in the use of computer packages or computer programming, CCNA advantageous.
- Have mechanical knowledge.
- Good knowledge of current force systems.
