Role Responsibilities:

  • Read and research information submitted into the incident room (MIR) recording information in the appropriate indices in the HOLMES data base in accordance with MIRSAP and standard operating procedures.
  • Receive and register all documentation from the Receiver appropriately using the HOLMES software and any replacement system.
  • Raise any actions as instructed, after checking that the enquiry is not already the subject of a previous action, updating actions as and where necessary and resulting the completed actions.
  • Index the content of the documents following the guide indicated by the Receiver or Document Reader, creating cross references as appropriate.
  • Index complex documentation within the HOLMES database in accordance with MIRSAP and the Indexing Management policy.
  • Use ancillary software, such as the Altia Document Management software to log and integrate multi media.
  • Utilise ancillary computer and word processing systems in order to undertake any additional research required.
  • Assist with typing, proof reading and clerking as directed by the office management.
  • Preparation of interview transcripts including registration of interviews onto the HOLMES database.
  • Assist Forensics Management Team with inputting exhibits onto HOLMES database.
  • Responsible for the control and security of all equipment associated with the HOLMES database.
  • Assist with court preparation and case build.
  • Undertake in the training of new operatives, police and police staff (when suitably qualified and experienced).
  • Attend court and give evidence as required.
  • Ensure all material gathered as part of an investigation is retained recorded and revealed where appropriate in support of evidential case build and disclosure.
  • Ensure material entering MIR is relevant accurate and proportional whilst complies with legislation, RIPA, DPA, Force Police and local Standard Operating Procedures.
Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience in using computer systems and software.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and accuracy in recording and presenting information.
  • Will be required to pass a HOLMES Indexers course.
  • RSA Level I or equivalent typing/keyboard skills.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Flexible approach to working practices.
  • Self-motivation and self-management skills.
  • Experience of team working.
Desirable Skills and Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of dealing/handling sensitive information with relevant protective marking.
  • Possess proven investigatory experience.
  • Manage own workload prioritising competing demands to ensure enquiries run to their maximum effectiveness.
  • Decisive with the ability to identify problems and take effective remedial action.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and procedures.
  • Previous experience of working in a major incident room environment.
  • Knowledge of legislation including PACE, DPA, RIPA, CPIA & ECHR.
