Role Responsibilities

-   Act as an exhibit officer, and investigate scenes and property to exploit forensic opportunities, secure, record and process evidence.

-   To ensure all evidence recovered from scenes is preserved correctly in accordance with legal requirements and current force best practice in order that continuity is maintained from the crime scene to the court. The post holder will be expected to attend scenes/incidents relating to Counter Terrorism incidents including those which may include those that are classed as Marauding Terrorist Attack, Counter Terrorism Siege etc

-   To undertake fingerprint / DNA recovery, development and processing from CT linked scenes / exhibits and from suspects following arrest and detention of individuals under the Terrorism Act 2000.

-   Enhance and recover evidence using a range of techniques.

-   Provide forensic support to covert and overt investigations in accordance with current policies and procedures in conjunction with regional & national law enforcement organisations and scientific support agencies.

-   To use information and intelligence to further an investigation and ensure appropriate forensic intelligence databases and systems are maintained and updated

-   Utilise appropriate photographic skills when necessary.

-   Write statements and present evidence in court.

-   Carry out hospital and mortuary liaison and forensic procedures where they will direct and control exhibits from casualty receiving hospitals/recovered from deceased persons, assist HM Coroner as directed and act as a point of contact between HM Coroner and police.

-   Conduct liaison between police forces including liaison with the National Bomb Data Centre, New Scotland Yard and other Force Special Branches regarding terrorism investigations.

-   Deliver advice, presentations and training to police forces, other relevant police & police staff audiences and outside agencies.


Essential Skills and Competencies

-   Investigative background with knowledge/understanding of forensic scene examinations, the recovery of evidence and correct packaging/storage of exhibits.

-   College of Policing Crime Scene Investigator Qualification or equivalent.

-   College of Policing Crime Scene Investigator Photographic qualification or equivalent.

-   A full driving licence is necessary because of the occupational requirements of the role.

-   Experience of managing multiple scene investigations and large scale exhibit recovery.

-   A good understanding of disclosure, court process and production of exhibits for trial.

-   Willingness to be deployed into a CBRN environment

-   Attention to detail.

-   Excellent communication skills


Desirable Skills and Competencies

-   Proven competence of exhibit handling and able to provide evidence of their skills within a complex or protracted investigation.

-   Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) trained and practised within any of the forensic DVI disciplines.

-   Knowledge/experience of HOLMES 2 Exhibits Officer role.

-   Experience of participation in inter-agency liaison surrounding forensic recovery issues.

-   Experience of working on covert operations.

-   Detailed knowledge of forensic issues and principles.

-   An awareness of current policies and developments that may impact upon forensic services.
