Closing Date: Wednesday 5th April 2023

Who we are:

Citizens in Policing works to support the integration of volunteers into the West Midlands Police family. Based in Lloyd House, we oversee volunteers in the special constabulary, the cadet scheme, police support volunteers and active citizens. We are guiding the force in how we best recruit, retain and reward volunteers within the organisation.

Why we need your help:

We are a team that champions volunteers within the organisation, therefore we are asking for the support of a volunteer(s) to aid the team going forward. We would immensely value the support and guidance of a volunteer to help us learn more about our volunteers’ experiences within the organisation. As the volunteer within our team, you would help us raise the profile of volunteering within the force and help bring communities together.

We are looking for a team of enthusiastic volunteers to assist us with conducting telephone exit interviews for previous volunteers by:

  • Conducting exit interviews to gain insight into their volunteering journey and their service delivery
  • You will be aiming to gain feedback and provide an open opportunity for them to share their experiences
  • Aim to highlight any fairness, management issues or professional developmental needs that may need to addressed
  • Assist with the administrative duties around exit interviews and collating the results/data for report functions

Skills and Experience:

  • Good communications skills & a good level of written and spoken English
  • Conversational skills, including asking follow- up or exploratory questions
  • Reliable with good time-keeping skills for arranging suitable phone interview times
  • Ability to control emotions
  • Friendly and open demeanour
  • Ability to go off- script and be colloquial
  • Ensure there is no judgement, any form of bias or personal prejudice
  • Attention to detail and good observational skills
  • Administration skills (Microsoft Office, Internet)

West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions.  As part of our commitment we operate a ‘Disability Confident Interview Scheme’ - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.

It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.

"Diversity and Inclusion Vision:  Maximise the potential of people from all backgrounds through a culture of fairness and inclusion to deliver the best service for our communities"
