Being a volunteer for West Midlands Police offers you an opportunity unlike any other – a chance to play a vital role in helping us to protect the public and keeping our communities safe.
Volunteering is an exciting and rewarding opportunity which allows you to gain new skills, to meet people from all walks of life and to support your community, whilst providing a valuable contribution to the achievement of our policing goals.

For many of our volunteer roles you do not require specialist skills. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, who can work well as part of a team, and who have a positive and friendly approach. In some of our roles, you will have the opportunity to showcase and utilise your particular skills or expertise to best effect - for example if you have a law background, then our Legal department could be an ideal place for you to volunteer.

About Police Support Volunteers
What is a Police Support Volunteer?
A police support volunteer (PSV) is a member of the public who plays a vital role in helping us deliver and improve the service we provide to our communities. Through personal choice they commit time and energy to perform tasks that support West Midlands Police.

- Museum Guides and Visitor Hosts
- Active Citizens/Street Watch/Speed Watch
- Victim Support
- Cadet Leaders

About Volunteer Police Officers
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Police Officer, then the Special Constabulary may be just what you’re looking for.
- Aimed at people from all walks of life, with the appropriate training and development you could soon be in the community as a uniformed Special Constable helping to protect the public and keep our communities safe. We’re looking for a commitment of at least 16 hours per month.
- Don’t worry if you already have a career you love – we have Specials from every walk of life, IT professionals, pilots, NHS and fire-fighter staff, factory staff and lawyers. We would expect you to bring integrity, initiative and an ability to stay calm under pressure, but if you think you have what it takes then look out for vacancies! If you would like to volunteer with West Midlands Police you are subject to appropriate security vetting. Once this has been completed we will arrange an induction for you to attend before you start your volunteer role.
